FAQ's
Do we do repairs in kitchen floors? While we recommend replacing a failed floor, it is sometimes suitable to repair or recoat rather than doing a full replacement if there are only minor failures. Instances where this may be suitable are; existing anti slip coating becoming slippery, small sections around drains or high use areas beginning to crack, chipping or denting - or repairs required for food authority audit & prior to new flooring being able to be completed.
Can we coat over existing tiles?Yes, we do this a lot. Provided tiles are sound so they can withstand the diamond grinding process, don’t have any movement and aren’t badly cracked they can be overcoated. In areas where a small number of tiles have come loose or are broken, we can remove them and patch with a high strength epoxy mortar prior to coating.
What product is used? The 2 most common products we use for kitchen flooring are PU cement flooring, and trowel applied epoxy resin. Both products incorporate anti slip and are available in different colour options. We will determine the product to use based on the application.
What thickness is it?Thickness depends on what substrate we are going over, temperature range that floor is subject to and usage. Thickness for trowel on coatings can range from 2mm-9mm.
What are the advantages of our flooring? There are many advantages over other options such tiles or vinyl, some of them are:
- In most cases there no joins, to create a weak spot.
- Impervious. doesn’t allow dirt and scum to penetrate, unlike grout lines or porous tiles, so stays looking great if cleaned regularly.
- Seamless coving. When coving is included it is a continuation of the floor meaning it won’t separate from the floor – eliminating ability for pests, grease/grime or water to get behind it.
- Long lasting anti slip – the anti slip lasts for the life of the floor, and doesn’t need treatments like tiles or vinyl.

Bondi Junction - Sydney
Project Size:115 Stairs - (10 flights + landings)
Project Brief:The strata manager for an apartment building contacted us, as they had a safety issue with the staircase. It had previously been painted numerous times with low quality paint, without adequate preparation. The surface of the stairs was slippery, and with the layers of paint showing through was an unsightly entrance to the building.
They were looking for something that would stand the test of time, and give the entrance of the building a fresh new look.
- Existing coating needed to be removed back to bare concrete to ensure adequate adhesion of new epoxy system.
- Needed to be able to sustain high traffic.
- Couldn’t be slippery.
Our onsite team meticulously prepared the stairs using hand held diamond grinding equipment coupled with our HEPA dust extractors to ensure all coating was removed,
and there was no dust risk to the residents of the building.
Using our multicoat flake system we were able to ensure a long lasting floor coating that incorporated anti slip top coats.
To finish it off, our team installed Australian standard compliant stair nosing to all stairs.
Morisset - Lake Macquarie
Project Size:Approx 400m2
Project Brief:Our client’s floor was going to be a trade shop where there would be shelving and racking placed on it, and have trade customers walking around.
They were wanting a recommendation on a floor that would be hard wearing, look good and be able to incorporate their corporate colours.
- Needed to be able to withstand normal warehouse uses (pallet jacks, shelving etc) but look more like a showroom.
- Client requested custom colour to suit their corporate colours.
- They wanted plain grey in the section where they received goods – so decorative floor to be able to adjoin seamlessly.
Through installing an epoxy flake floor, we were able to ensure our customer had a very hard wearing floor, capable of handling their requirements whilst
being able to impress their customers, and seamlessly joining onto their plain grey goods-in section also installed by Safe Floors Australia.

Prospect - Western Sydney
Project Size:Total of approx 750m2
Project Brief:Safe Floors Australia was contacted by the Aquatic Park to re do the flooring of all their amenity blocks throughout the park. This was a total of 4 amenity blocks, each with a male and female section and adjoining disabled and/or family change rooms.
Key Points:- Existing floor was failing, requiring removal.
- New floor needed to be anti-slip – although cleanable.
- Client requested custom colour blends to suit the colour theme throughout the park.
The Safe Floors Australia team was able to work with our suppliers to get colours to suit our clients’ requirements.
Our onsite team removed existing coating and prepared substrate for adequate adhesion of new coating, then applied the new epoxy system.
The finished result was great looking, uniquely coloured floors throughout, with a cleanable surface, whilst meeting the requirement for non-slip.
Winston Hills - Sydney
Project Size:2500m2
Project Brief:The new tenant for a manufacturing facility in Sydney contacted us. They were leasing a factory that had previously been used for engineering and heavy manufacturing. This previous use had resulted in the floor being very worn and having dozens of large chunks and chips taken out of it. They were wanting something to brighten the internal space of the factory, be suitable for their own manufacturing and cover all the indents, scrapes, chips and divots.
Key Points:- Existing floor was very worn.
- Needed to be bright – reflect light.
- Be suitable for forklifts and high use.
- Extensive repairs to slab.
Our team prepared the slab by a full diamond grind, removing the dirty top layer of concrete.
We then patched all the divots, cracks and large chips using a high strength epoxy mortar. All expansion joints were sealed with a flexible polyurethane sealant. Finally, we applied coats of Megapoxy 132 high strength industrial grade epoxy which gives a gloss finish.
The result drastically improved the overall appearance of the facility, increased brightness within the factory and left them with an easy to clean hard wearing floor.
